Golf Leads Temple Invitational After First Day

Huntingdon Valley, PA - Junior Brandon Matthews, who shot a one-under 69, was one of three Temple golfers among the Top 10 to help lead the Owls to a three-stroke lead over Hartford after the first day of competition at the Temple Invitational held at the 6,670-yard par 70 North Course at Philmont Country Club.
Matthews was tied for second overall while seniors Matt Teesdale and Pat Ross were tied for fourth and 10th after shooting a 70 and 72, respectively.
Freshman Mark Farley was six-over 66 for the day and tied for 36th while Evan Thornton rounded out the five-man squad with a seven-over 77 to tie for 47th.
The Owls posted a 287 as a team, leading second place Hartford and Georgetown, tied four strokes back at 291. Seton Hall (294) was third followed by Fordham (296), Penn (298), Binghamton (298), Rhode Island (303), La Salle (304), Brown (304), Drexel (306), Saint Joseph's (306), Cornell (307) and Temple B (320).
Seton Hall's J.T. Harper leads the 75-man field with a two-under 68 while Georgetown's Jack Musgrave was tied for second with Matthews with a one-under 69.
Bobby Firth led Temple's B team with a six-over 66. Alec Kissell (77), Evan Notaro (82), Liam Fahey (85) and Joey Rueter (88) also competed on the squad.
The Temple Invitational concludes Sunday.
