Men's Soccer Heads to Cincinnati on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer heads to Cincinnati on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Owls look to win their third consecutive game against the Bearcats after defeating them last season and this season 2-0 on Sept. 27. Cincinnati looks for their first conference win of the season.

- Temple is 2-9-2, 1-2-1 with American Athletic Conference play underway for the 2014 season. The Owls tied UCF last Wednesday 1-1. Redshirt-senior forward Chas Wilson scored with less than three minutes left in regulation to tie the game. The Owls dropped their last game to SMU 2-1 in overtime last Saturday.
- 12 underclassmen have started a game for Temple. 16 total underclassmen have appeared in a game.
- Five freshmen have started at least eight games for the Owls: midfielder Felipe Liborio (12 games), midfielder Miguel Polley (11), defender Mark Grasela (eight), midfielder Brendon Creed (eight), and forward Olli Tynkkynen (eight).
- Senior goalkeeper Dan Scheck is currently second in career allowed average (0.86) behind Jeff Kraft's (1977-80) 0.85 average and ranks fourth in career wins (16).
- Sophomore defender Robert Sagel has played all 1,251 minutes of the season. Sophomore defender Matt Mahoney is second in minutes played with 1,193.
- Sagel, Scheck and junior forward/midfielder Jared Martinelli were selected to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team. Scheck was voted by the coaches as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
- Temple was predicted to finish fifth in the conference by the preseason coaches' poll.
- Cincinnati comes into the game with a 3-7-3, 0-3-1 record. The Bearcats are looking for their first conference win of the season after being outscored by conference opponents 9-3.
- The Bearcats tied UConn 0-0 last Wednesday and lost to No. 24 USF 3-1 last Saturday in their last two home contests.
- Cincinnati returned over 80% of their scoring and 300-plus career starts to this season's squad. Junior defender Richardo Israel was selected to the preseason all-conference team.
- Junior forward John Manga leads the team in goals (nine) and points (18). Manga has scored nine of the team's 16 goals.
- Manga has scored in every win this season for the Bearcats.
- Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Alex Gill has started all 13 games and has 61 saves, a 1.60 goals allowed average and four shutouts on the season.
- Temple has won the two meetings between the two schools. On Sept. 27 Martinelli and Wilson both scored off touch passes from Polley to lead the Owls to a 2-0 win. Scheck had two saves in the shutout.
