AMBLER, Pa. – Temple women's soccer fell 2-0 to #18 UCF Thursday evening in Ambler, Pa. Temple drops to 10-5-1 and 3-3-1 in the conference while UCF stands at 13-2-0 and 6-0-0 in the conference.
UCF gained control early in the first half as Alex Piercy scored off a corner at the 7:56 minute mark assisted by Jennifer Martin and Ashley Spivey. UCF connected again off a corner at the 44:48 minute mark right before the first half ended. The goal was scored by Bridget Callahan and the assist given to Alex Piercy. The Owls fought hard with some quality shots but ended the half down 2-0.
During the second half, the Owls came out with more aggression and took several shots but could not find the net. Temple held the UCF attack scoreless in the second half, and the game ended 2-0. Temple finished the game with 10 shots.
"It was a tough one because we played so well and to lose on two set plays is so frustrating," said head coach Seamus O'Connor. "The good thing about this game is its correctable and when we play them in the playoffs we will be better on our set plays. It's tough not having as deep of a bench as UCF had, our team has taken a toll on injuries. I was really impressed with the group playing hard until the end of the game. So, overall I am a little frustrated but we did get 10 shots on a team like UCF. We will get better."
Starting goalkeeper Shauni Kerkhoff added 6 saves to her resume. Kerkhoff now has 66 saves this season and is currently ranked 5th all-time in saves with 224.
The Owls will return home this Sunday, Oct. 19th against USF. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at Ambler Sports Complex in Ambler, Pa. The Owls hold a 0-1-0 all-time record against the Bulls. The teams' last matchup was on Oct. 4, 2013 at USF, which resulted in a 1-0 victory for USF.
