Golf Finishes 11th After First Round of Georgetown Intercollegiate

Beallsville, Md. – Temple junior Brandon Matthews shot an even-par 71 to tie for fourth overall at the 30th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate at The Members Club at Four Streams.   Mathews was a mere two shots behind the leader, Otto Black of Toledo, who carded a two-under 69 to top the 66-player field.

The Owls shot a 304 placing 11th overall in the 12-team field after the first day of competition. Toledo leads the tournament with a 284 while Illinois State and Seattle tied for second with scores of 293. Penn State placed fourth shooting a 294. Navy, Georgetown, Weber State, William & Mary and Gonzaga all finished the first round with a 297. De Paul recorded a 300, while Saint Joseph's was 12th with a 306. 

Pat Ross , a transfer from the University of Hartford, was the Owls second finisher on the day with a five-over 76 (t-37th) Freshman Evan Thornton (78, t-49th) was next while senior Matt Teesdale (79, t-53rd) and freshman Mark Farley (81, t-59th ) rounded out the squad. 

Temple will tee off again Tuesday, October 21st for round two of the Georgetown Intercollegiate starting at 8:40 am.
