Men's Soccer Honored with Four All-Conference Selections
11.13.14 | Men's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Men's soccer players Jared Martinelli, Robert Sagel and Dan Scheck were named to the Second Team All-Conference on Thursday night while Felipe Liborio was named to the All-Rookie Team. The all-conference and all-rookie teams were selected by the eight coaches in the American Athletic Conference after the regular season concluded last week.
Martinelli has earned second team honors for two straight seasons. He was second in scoring on the team with eight points off two goals and a team-leading four assists. In a 2-0 win in the conference opener against Cincinnati, he scored the game-winning goal. As a junior, Martinelli already ranks sixth all-time at Temple in career assists (19) and has 53 career points.
This is also the second straight year that Sagel has been selected to the second team. He played all 1,712 minutes this season and has started every game in his two seasons at Temple. Sagel was chosen as a captain at the beginning of the year, even though he was just a sophomore, and was a leader for a young squad the entire year.
Scheck has left his mark at Temple after his four year career donning the cherry and white in goal. He ranks ninth in career saves (198), third in career goals against average (1.03) and fourth in all-time wins (16). Scheck made 75 saves and recorded two shutouts this season.
Coming into the season as a four star recruit and no. 52 overall in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, Liborio proved he was talented enough to contribute right away as a freshman. Liborio started 17 games this season. Even though he missed a game due to injury, he ranked third on the team in minutes played (1,532). He scored his first collegiate goal in a road contest against Cincinnati. Temple has now had a player on the all-rookie teams for three straight years (Sagel last season and Martinelli in 2012 in the A-10).
