News & Notes Following Temple's 30-13 loss at Penn State
Temple was never ahead in this game, the third time this season that has occurred (at Houston, at UCF were the others). However, the game was tied for 25:51 – the most in any game this season that Temple and its opponent were tied. Conversely, Temple never trailed in its other two road games this season.
Jacob Quinn started at RG giving the Owls a different starter at that position in the past three weeks. Brendan McGowan started at LG for the second consecutive week breaking a string of four games with different starters on that side. In all, Temple has used five different O-line combinations in the past five games after starting the season with the same line for 6 contests.
Despite missing practice time due to injury, both Jalen Fitzpatrick and Tavon Young performed well in the loss. Fitzpatrick was the game's leading receiver with 4 catches, 113 yards and the only TD through the air. His 75-yard reception was the longest by an Owl this season and the longest of the senior's career. His 113-yard output was also a career high, his third 100-yard performance of the season, and the fourth of his career.
Young intercepted QB Christian Hackenberg in the 2nd Q of a 3-3 game and returned it 25 yards into PSU territory. He is now 3rd in the American Athletic Conference with 4 INTs and ranks first in the conference with 153 return yards on those picks.
LB Tyler Matakevich led all tacklers with 13 (5 solos), 0.5 sacks and 2.0 TFLs. He also recorded his first INT of the season and returned it 47 yards to set up a game-tying FG early in the 3rd Q. Matakevich now has 96 tackles this season and 328 in his career moving him into 8th place on the school's all-time list.
DE Praise Martin-Oguike recorded 0.5 sack. He has now recorded at least a partial sack in 7 consecutive games and has 8.5 total in that span.
