Women's Rowing Gives Thanks to Trustee Lenfest

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's rowing team took time out of their offseason training to give thanks to Trustee H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest for his contributions to the program. The team and coaches spent time with Lenfest at his Philadelphia Inquirer office this past week.
Lenfest, along with the city of Philadelphia, financed the renovation of the East Park Canoe House, the future home of Temple rowing.
Seventeen members of the team met with Lenfest to talk rowing, while senior captain, Ellie Oken, presented him with Temple shirts and 'Thank You' cards signed by the entire team.
Margaret Carney, Associate VP & University Architect, also joined the meet-and-greet, providing background on the unique history of the East Park building and the progress to date on the renovations.
"We are thankful on a daily basis for the opportunity to chase our dreams as varsity student-athletes at Temple - an opportunity made possible by the generosity of Mr. Lenfest," said head coach Rebecca Grzybowski. "His gift is one that will resonate for generations and we are grateful beyond measure."
Sophomore Samantha Sederstrand, along with her uncle — Stan Wischnowski, VP of News Operations at the Inquirer, was the catalyst behind the meeting. "Mr. Lenfest has not only had a positive impact on the lives of the present rowing team, but has allowed for future generations to keep alive this Philadelphia and Temple tradition," Sederstrand noted. "We owe a lot to Mr. Lenfest and the least we can do is give it our all every time we get into a boat."
Temple women's rowing will open the spring racing season on March 21, competing against Lehigh and George Washington on the Schuylkill River.
