Women's Basketball Takes on Harvard at Mohegan Sun

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team closes out the eight-team Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Tournament with a clash against Harvard on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.Â
Temple is 2-3 overall this season, including a 1-2 start to the tournament last weekend in Kansas. The Owls opened with a win over Georgetown, before falling to Kansas and Alabama. A trio of underclassmen lead Temple in scoring this season, headed up by sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald who is averaging 14.4 points per game to go along with 3.6 steals per game. Freshmen Alliya Butts (14.0 ppg) and Tanaya Atkinson (11.2 ppg) are next on the Owls' scoring list, while senior Tyonna Williams (10.2 ppg) also averages double-digits in scoring. Sophomore Safiya Martin is the team's top rebounder, averaging 9.6 boards a game, while junior Erica Covile (6.4 rpg) and Atkinson (6.2 rpg) have also been active on the glass.Â
Harvard is 3-2 this season, with a 2-1 start to the tournament. The Crimson competed in the Notre Dame half of the field, falling to the hosts, but defeating Quinnipiac and Holy Cross in South Bend. Three players are averaging double-figures for Harvard, led by 6-4 senior Temi Fagbenle who has averaged a double-double thus far, scoring 14.6 points per game and pulling down 11.0 rebounds per game. Senior Erin McDonnell has posted 13.0 points per game, while junior Annmarie Healey is scoring 12.6 a game, to round out the Harvard offense.Â
The Temple vs. Harvard match-up is the final of the day, as teams from the Kansas bracket are paired up with teams from the Notre Dame bracket. Quinnipiac and Alabama open the action at 11 a.m. followed by No. 2/1 Notre Dame taking on Kansas at 1 p.m. Holy Cross and Georgetown will meet at 3 p.m., followed by the Owls taking on Harvard at 5 p.m.Â
