Men's Basketball Concludes Big 5 Play at #7/7 Villanova Sunday

12.12.14 | Men's Basketball

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Temple men's basketball team concludes its Philadelphia Big 5 schedule Sunday when the Owls (6-3, 2-1 Big 5) travel to #7/7 Villanova (9-0, 2-0 Big 5) for a 2:00 p.m. game at The Pavilion.  The contest will be televised nationally by Fox Sports 1 and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.

Villanova leads the series, 45-43, which is the closest won-loss mark among Big 5 opponents. The winner of Sunday's game will clinch at least a share of the city-series title.

Senior guard Will Cummings leads Temple in scoring (14.9 ppg.), rebounding (6.33 rpg.), assists (3.0 apg.) and steals (1.3 spg.).  The Owl co-captain has managed to get to the charity stripe at a school-record pace, ranking sixth nationally with 55 made free throws while connecting on 79.7 percent of his attempts.

His backcourt mate, junior Quenton DeCosey, also averages double figures, scoring at a 14.3 points per game clip.  The reigning Big 5 Player of the Week has tallied double figures in eight straight games and averaged 20.5 points in two city-series games last week.

Junior forward Jaylen Bond (5.9 ppg., 6.29 rpg,) made his first start at Temple in the team's win over Towson Wednesday, and was one rebound shy of recording his second double-double of the season.  Redshirt sophomore Daniel Dingle (7.4 ppg.) and junior Devontae Watson (2.0 ppg.) round out the Owl starters while sophomore guard Josh Brown (8.6 ppg.) has provided a spark off the bench.

Villanova has used a balanced offensive attack in posting a perfect record so far this season while climbing in the national rankings.  No Wildcat has scored more than 20 points in a game with redshirt junior guard Dylan Ennis (12.9 ppg.) leading the squad.

Junior forward Daniel Ochefu had been a beast down low for Villanova, averaging 9.3 points on 66.7 percent shooting while pulling down a team-best 7.3 rebounds per contest.  Senior guard Darrun Hilliard (10.7 ppg,) also averages double figures while junior guard Ryan Arcidiacono (7.4 ppg.) tops the squad in assists (3.6 apg.).

Temple won the last meeting between the teams at the Pavillion, 76-61, on December 5, 2012.  Villanova, however, owns a 704 edge in games played at its on-campus arena.
