GREENVILLE, SC - Sophomore Brandon Matthews had his second straight under par round, but the Owls dropped seven places on the second day of competition to place 14th in the 18-team Furman Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon.
Matthews followed Friday's three-under 69 with a round of 71 to for fourth overall, five shots behind overall leader Trevor Cone (66-69) of Virginia Tech tied for third overall in the 111-player field.
Senior Matthew Crescenzo carded a one-over 73 for the second straight day to tie for 25th overall. Then there was a significant drop off for the Owls as juniors Matt Teesdale (t72) and Mike Amole (t101) along with freshman Evan Galbreath (109th) all turned in eight-over rounds of 80.
The Owls (596) are 28 strokes behind co-leaders Georgia State and Virginia Tech (568).
