Women’s Rowing Competes at Murphy Cup Regatta

Camden, N.J.- Temple Women's Rowing had a successful day on the Cooper River for the Murphy Cup Regatta. The team secured three final round appearances and competed aggressively throughout the day.

In the first race of the day the Varsity 4 A boat, comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Lily Papaleo (stroke), Gina Inverso (seat-3), Blair Bradley (seat-2) and Kathy Bostion (bow), finished in second place in the women's varsity 4+ heat 2 race with a time of 8:57.19, behind Navy.

The Owls Varsity 4 B boat finished in fourth place in heat 6 of the semifnal race. The boat included Julia Wolanski (coxswain), Kelly Hill (stroke), Devin Dakes (seat-3), Eileen Smith (seat-2) and Nicole Stark (bow). The team had a time of 9:42.76.

Led by Aubrey Foden (coxswain) the Owls' Novice 8 A boat finished the heat 2 race in second place with a time of 8:26.49. The boat was comprised of  Kayla Dorney (stroke), Rachael Braccia (seat-7), Emily Mehler (seat-6), Sydney Garofolo (seat-5), Jenna Bahel (seat-4), Kaitlyn Grisanti (seat-3), Aimee Meissner (seat-2) and Samantha Sederstrand (bow). The second place finish qualified the Owls for the finals, in which they finished second to earn silver medals. 

To continue through the afternoon Nicole Barth (coxswain) led her boat, comprised of Victoria Kelly (stroke), Kathleen Mascitelli (seat-7), Olivia Aizen (seat-6), Taryn Beaver (seat-5), Imani Johnson (seat-4), Brianne Wojciechowski (seat-3), Sarah Asman (seat-2) and  Lauren Thamel (bow) to a third place finish in their heat, with a time of 8:38.15.
 
In another finals qualifying race, the Owls Junior Varsity 8 boat finished in seonnd place in their heat with a time of 7:51.41. The boat was comprised of Erin Matz (coxswain), Lea Millio (stroke), Emily Opperman (seat-7), Stephanie Barber (seat-6), Sarah Barber (seat-5), Annie Buckley (seat-4), Leyland (seat-3), Grace Kroner (seat-2) and Susan O'Neil Coyne (bow). In the junior varsity 8 final, TU finished sixth with a time of 8:39.70. 
 
The Owls Varsity 8 boat, led by Kelsey Franks (coxswain), was comprised of Victoria Joye (stroke), Jackie Lees (seat-7), Megan Boyer (seat-6), Callista DiGuardia (seat-5), Allison Watkins (seat-4), Kara Carson (seat-3), Moira Meekes (seat-2) and  Lauren Kidd (bow). The boat finished third in its heat with a time of 8:20.51. The Owls went on to place fouth in the varsity 8 petite final. 

The women's rowing team returns to the Schuylkill River on April 4th, to compete head to head against Bucknell, Duquesne and Drexel University. Stay tuned to Owlsports.com for updates.
