3.6.14 | Women's Basketball
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the game schedule for the 2014 Hall of Fame Women's Challenge. The Hall of Fame Women's Challenge, hosted by the Hall of Fame and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is an annual women's exempt college basketball tournament featuring eight schools. All event proceeds will benefit the non-profit Hall of Fame.
"We are thrilled to be holding our second annual Hall of Fame Women's Challenge in 2014," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. "We look forward to hosting the best in women's college basketball at this annual event."
"We are so excited to be a part of the second annual Hall of Fame Women's Challenge," said Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza. "This is a great opportunity for our Temple players. We will be playing on a national stage against outstanding opponents. We look forward to kicking off next season in this prestigious event."
Six games will be played November 23-25 at the University of Notre Dame, six games will be played at the University of Kansas from November 21-23 and four games will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on Sunday, November 30. The eight competing teams include: Harvard University, Quinnipiac University, Holy Cross, University of Notre Dame, Temple University, Georgetown University, University of Kansas and University of Alabama.
"We are thrilled to continue to expand our relationship with the Basketball Hall of Fame," said Bobby Soper, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mohegan Sun. "For seven years now, we have worked closely together on a number of events including a very successful men's tournament inside Mohegan Sun Arena this past fall."
"Building on the success of the inaugural tournament, and following the well received feedback on the men's event, the co-hosts are pleased to have the second year 2014 Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at Mohegan Sun Arena," said Rich Ensor, MAAC Commissioner. "The MAAC is excited that Quinnipiac will represent the league in year two of the Challenge as the event's reputation develops as the best early season women's hoops tournament."
