Owls' Men's Tennis Falls at Cross-City Rival Penn, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA – Cross-city rival Penn proved too much for the Temple men's tennis team, defeating the Owls 7-0 on Sunday, March 9, at the Levy Tennis Center. The loss snapped a four-match win streak for the Owls.
The Quakers wrapped with the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 3, followed by an 8-5 decision at No. 1. Hicham Belkssir and Nicolas Paulus nearly helped avoid the shutout, taking their second flight opponents to the wire before dropping an 8-7(9) decision.
In singles action, TU's best chances for points came at the second and fifth flights. At No. 2, Kristian Marquart won the first set, 7-5, but Vim De Alwis came back to win the next two, 6-2, 11-9, for the victory. Filip Stipcic also won the opening set of his fifth flight match, but Marshall Sharp responded with a 6-3 second set, and held on for a 10-4 super tiebreaker.
Temple (4-9) returns to action on Friday, March 14, with a 5 p.m. match at #75 Binghamton.
