Women's Rowing Competes Aggressively at Knecht Cup

-Women's Rowing completed a busy weekend at the Knecht Cup Regatta, this afternoon. The Owls had success with all 7 of their boats and advanced 2 boats to the final round of competition.

The Owls Novice 4+ boat showed strength on the water, securing a 6th place finish in the grand final of their respective race. The boat was comprised of Leticia Lucero (coxswain), Imani Johnson (seat-4), Kathleen Mascitelli (seat-3), Gabriella Kelly (seat-2) and Samantha Sederstrand (bow). The varsity 4+ A boat followed the model of their teammates and advanced to the petite final of their respective race and completed the race in 3rd place with a time of 8:12.39.  The boat was comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Blair Bradley (seat-4), Gina Inverso(seat-3), Devin Dakes (seat-2), and Kathy Bostion

Temple's novice 8+ boat did not advance to the final race rounds, however the boat did place 4th in the semifinal 2 round of their event. The boat finished with a time of 7:29.14 and was comprised of Aubrie Foden (coxswain), Kayla Dorney (seat-8), Rachael Braccia (seat-7), Emily Mehler (seat-8), Sydney Garofolo (seat-5), Jenna Bahel (seat-4), Taryn Beaver (seat-3), Aimee Meissner (seat-2) and Kaitlin Grisanti (bow).

"The Knecht Cup is the largest regatta we'll see until the Dad Vail and it is a great mid-season test." Said Head Coach Rebecca Smith-Grzybowski, " This year we'll be getting a little conference championship preview as well with 5 of the 7 American schools attending - Temple, University of Central Florida, Southern Methodist, UConn & Villanova."

Continuing the "mid-season test" Nicole Barth (coxswain) led the varsity 8+ C boat to the final round of racing where they were met with competition from Old Dominion, Fordham, UMass, Boston College and Central Florida. The Owls fared well, securing a 6th place finish with a boat comprised of Imani Johnson (seat-8), Kaitlyn Mascitelli (seat-7), Olivia Aizen (seat-6), Kelly Moran (seat-5), Gabriella Kelly (seat-4), Samantha Sederstrand (seat-3), Sarah Asman (seat-2) and Lauren Thamel (bow).

Erin Matz (coxswain) led the varsity 8+B boat to a 5th place finish in the qualifying rounds of their respective race. The 7:14.86 finish was enough to advance the boat, comprised of Lea Millio (seat-8), Emily Opperman (seat-7), Stephanie Barber (seat-6), Sarah barber (seat-5), Annie Buckley (seat-4), Emily Leyland (seat-3), Grace Kroner (seat-2) and Susan O'Neil Coyne (bow), to the third final race where they placed 4th with a time of 7:10.92. 

The Owls varsity 8+ placed in the 5th heat of the qualifying rounds, The boat finished behind Bucknell and Boston College for 3rd place finish with a time of 6:58.08. The boat was comprised of Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Jackie Lees (seat-8), Victoria Joye (seat-7), Kara Carson (seat-6), Megan Boyer (seat-5), Callista DiGuardia (seat-4), Allison Watkins (seat-3), Lauren Kidd (seat-2) and Moira Meekes (bow). The boat advanced to the third final of the Knecht cup and secured a 2nd place finish, behind Fordhman, to round out the weekend. 

The Owls return to competition April 19th, when they meet Buffalo, Bucknell and West Virginia Univerity on the water in Lewisburg, Pa.
