Game Notes

PHILADELPHIA
– Temple softball gets back on the field for three games this weekend against American Athletic Conference foe UConn at Burrill Family Field in Storrs, Conn. The Owls (13-19, 2-6 AAC) and Huskies (10-29, 2-9 AAC) meet in a doubleheader on Friday, April 18, beginning at 1 p.m., before playing a single game on Saturday, April 19, at 12 p.m.

TU and UConn have met 25 times in the history of the two programs, with the Huskies holding a 16-9 advantage. The last meeting came on February 25, 2000, when the Cherry & White handed UConn a 3-1 loss.

Temple has not played since taking two of three games from Rutgers in conference action last weekend. The Owls were scheduled to host Villanova for a mid-week non-conference doubleheader, but as has often been the case this season, the weather prevented that matchup from happening.

Senior Sarah Prezioso continues to lead the squad with a .402 (41-for-102) batting average, which is good for fourth overall among league players. The shortstop has stepped it up in conference play, batting a sizzling .440 (11-for-25), an average tied for second in The American. Prezioso, coming off of her first American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, also leads the Owls in nearly every other offensive category: hits (41), runs (28), RBI (21), stolen bases (13), homeruns (7) and doubles (6).

Sophomore Kelsey Dominik and freshman Amanda Gatt continue to do the majority of the work in the circle. Dominik has posted an 8-7 record with a 2.35 ERA, the sixth best in the league. She has tossed a team-high 95.1 innings in 16 appearances, recording 13 complete games and three shutouts. Gatt (4-3) has a 3.87 ERA in 50.2 innings of work with 12 appearances and three complete games.

UConn will look to build on its offensive performance in a 12-1 win over Hartford on Wednesday afternoon. Like Prezioso, Valerie Sadowl leads UConn in nearly every batting category and is hitting .352, which ranks 11th in the conference.

Lauren Duggan (6-17) has been UConn's go-to in the circle. The junior has thrown 119.1 innings in 27 appearances, recording a 5.04 ERA.
