MILWAUKEE, Wis.
- Temple lacrosse jumped out to an early lead and never let Marquette tie the score, finishing with an 11-7 BIG EAST road win against the Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon. Senior Jaymie Tabor led the Owls (6-8, 3-2) with three goals for a hat trick, her sixth of the season, while sophomore Nicole Tiernan scored twice and added an assist for Temple.

The win is the second conference victory in a row for the Owls, who are now tied for third place in the BIG EAST at 3-2. Marquette falls to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Temple had a strong afternoon off the draw, finishing with 13 draw controls to the Golden Eagles' six. Seven of the Owls' draws came from sophomore Maddie McTigue.

Tabor scored her first goal off an assist from Tiernan in the third minute of action, but it was nearly eight minutes before the score changed from the Owls' 1-0 lead.

Molly Seefried passed to Kathryn Skahan who gave Temple a 2-0 lead a the 20-minute mark, and after a single Marquette goal, Nicole Tiernan and twin sister Megan Tiernan scored back-to-back goals about a minute apart to give the Owls a 4-1 lead at 11:13.

The trend continued with one Golden Eagle goal followed by two goals for Temple. Redshirt freshman Brenda McDermott, who scored her first career goal in the Owls' win over Cincinnati this past weekend, scored the second goal of her career off an assist from Morgan Glassford. Glassford scored her own in the final two minutes of the second half on a free position attempt, and the Owls took a 7-3 lead into halftime.

Marquette got some momentum going early in the second half with two goals in the first four and a half minutes, but it wasn't long before the Owls got both back. Seefried and Rachel Schwaab pushed Temple's lead back to four, 9-5, with a pair of goals near the 20-minute mark and 17-minute mark of the half.

Amanda Bochniak and Claire Costanza both scored their second goals of the game for Marquette in another 2-0 run, but the second of those came with less than four minutes remaining. Both teams committed turnovers after Marquette controlled the next draw, but Tabor caused a second turnover on Marquette with 2:33 remaining which would prove to be a key play.

The Owls held possession for the next two minutes before Tiernan scored her second goal of the game in a man-up situation for a 10-7 lead with 39 seconds to go. Kelly Syphard got the draw control and with six seconds remaining, Tabor completed her hat trick for the final tally of the game.

Temple's next game is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Georgetown. The Hoyas, picked to win the BIG EAST in the Preseason Coaches Poll, are currently receiving votes in the IWLCA Top 20.
