Track & Field Teams Will Host Owls Alumni Invitational on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - On Saturday, April 19, the Temple men's and women's track & field teams will host a home meet for the first time in a number of a years. The meet is called the Owls Alumni Invitational, and will be held on the Geasey Field track starting with field events at 9:30 a.m. Fans can see a schedule of events and also follow along with live results through the above links.
At 10:45 a.m., Temple will honor seven seniors as part of a Senior Day recognition, which will be followed by a special recognition of the men's program in its final season. The Owls expect a number of alums to be in attendance on Saturday to help honor the program.
In addition to the Owls, athletes from La Salle, Cheyney, Community College of Philadelphia and Harcum will be competing on Saturday. All three jumps (high jump, long jump, triple jump) will be featured, but only two throws (javelin, shot put) are scheduled due to facility limitations. The running events will kick off with the 4x100 meter relay at 11:00 a.m., and are scheduled to conclude with the 4x400 meter relay at 2:35 p.m.
Temple will have just one meet left after Saturday before competing in its first-ever American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Next weekend will see the Owls competed at the famed Penn Relays, being held for the 120th year. The conference meet is set for May 2-4 at the University of South Florida.
Senior Day
The seven seniors to be honored include women's team members Gennie DePass, Ambrosia Iwugo and Anna Pavone, along with men's team members Will Kellar, Dylan Pensyl, Gabe Pickett and Marcus Robertson.
Gennie DePass, a journalism major from Utica, New York, plans to apply to graduate schools and obtain a full-time job after she leaves Temple. Gennie is a sprinter for the Owls who has seen success in both individual and relay events. As a sophomore, Gennie was part of the 4x100 meter relay team that took third place at the Penn Relays. At last year's Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, Gennie was a top-15 finisher in the 800m run.
Ambrosia Iwugo, a kinesiology major from Bowie, Maryland, plans to enroll in a physical therapy program after graduating from Temple. Ambrosia has been one of the Owls' top sprinters in her career, and was part of Temple's second-place 4x100 meter relay team at last year's Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships. As a freshman and sophomore, she took second place individually in the 400 meter dash at the A-10 meet. Ambrosia's favorite memory with the Owls is competing at the Texas Relays and being part of various team functions over the years.
Anna Pavone is an advertising account management major with a minor in digital media technologies from West Chester, Pennsylvania. After graduation, Anna plans to start working in the marketing/advertising industry as an account manager. Anna has consistently been a top distance runner for the program, and recently broke her own school record in the mile at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. She placed 18th at the conference championships in her final season of cross country, and was ninth at the ECAC Cross Country Championships. As a junior, Anna was part of the school-record setting distance medley relay team at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Her favorite memories as an Owl are dropping 20 seconds off her personal best in the 1500 at the conference meet as a sophomore, as well as all the times practicing with the teammates who became her best friends.
Will Kellar is an environmental studies major from Exton, Pennsylvania, who plans to attend graduate school for geoscience and take a road trip to the west coast this summer. Will is a top distance runner for the Owls and owns the indoor school record for the 1,000 meter run. This past indoor season, Will ran a personal-best time of 4:08.50 in the mile to advance to the finals at the IC4A Championships. In his senior cross country season, Will was Temple's top finisher at both the American Athletic Conference Championships and the NCAA Regionals. Will's favorite memory as an Owl is competing at the Florida Relays.
Dylan Pensyl is a political science and philosophy double major from Yardley, Pennsylvania. After college, Dylan plans to intern at Novo Nordisk in Princeton, New Jersey, while searching for full time employment. Dylan specializes in jumps for the Owls, and in his career he owns five top-six finishes at Atlantic 10 Championships in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. He was sidelined with an injury for his junior season, but made his way back and recorded strong finishes this past indoor season. Dylan's favorite memories as an Owl are practicing with his teammates and creating a brotherhood while working hard together.
Gabe Pickett, a kinesiology major from Vestal, New York, plans to enroll in graduate school after leaving Temple. Gabe has been a standout performer in his career at Temple, and rebounded from injury last summer to come back strong this outdoor season. Gabe earned second-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump at last year's Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, recording personal best marks in each. As a sophomore, Gabe was the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Champion in the triple jump. Gabe's favorite memory as an Owl is the indoor IC4A Championships his sophomore year, when he, Will Kellar and Josh McFrazier all took second place in their events with personal best marks.
Marcus Robertson, a communications major with a concentration in business and entrepreneurship, hails from Virginia Beach, Virginia. After college, Marcus plans to work in sales or marketing for a TV network. This season, Marcus has been part of the Owls' top relay team in the 4x800, and also took ninth place in the 800 meter at the Carolina Relays with a personal best finish. Marcus's favorite memory of his time as an Owl is the love and motivation received from the Temple track and field family.
