PALM HARBOR, FL -
Temple sophomore Brandon Matthews carded a one-under par 70 on the final day of the 2014 American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships Tuesday to finish the three-day event tied for fourth-place with a one-under 213.

The Owls also had their best day as a team at the tough Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Beach Resort and Golf Club, shooting a 13-over 297 to finish ninth of 10 teams.

Matthews, who was tied for sixth after the second day, turned in a second straight round of 70 to move into the Top 5 in the strong field.

Senior captain Matt Crescenzo, playing his final round of collegiate golf, rebounded from a rare bad round (81) Monday to post a one-over 72.  He finished tied for 39th overall.

Junior Matt Teesdale was second for the Owls, and tied for 26th overall, as he recorded a three-over 74 and was 11-over (225) for the tournament.

Temple's final two golfers, junior Mike Amole (85-83-81, 249) and freshman Evan Notaro (81-84-88, 253), placed 49th and 50th overall, respectively.

SMU (858), ranked #31, turned in an impressive one-over 285 to overtake #7 UCF (863) and win the tournament by five strokes. Houston (866), ranked ninth in the nation, was three strokes behind UCF while #30 USF (867) was a stroke back in fourth.

SMU's Bryon Dechambeau, ranked #25 nationally, carded a 68 for the second straight day to win the individual title with a seven-under 206.
