Women's Rowing Battles Duquesne and Bucknell on the Schuylkill

Philadelphia-Temple Women's Rowing hosted Duquesne and Bucknell on the Schuylkill River Saturday for a series of races.
Temple went head-to-head against Bucknell during the morning session and had difficulty adjusting to race conditions throughout the day. The Varsity 8+ A , Varsity 8+ B, Varsity 4+ B and Novice 8+ A finished behind the Bison in their respective races, while the Varsity 4+ A and Novice 8+ B boats defeated Bucknell.
The Varsity 4+ A boat, comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Blair Bradley (stroke), Gina Inverso (seat-3), Devin Dakes (seat-2), Kathy Bostion (bow), won its race with a time of 7:41.86, almost a full minute ahead of the competition.
Nicole Barth (coxswain) led the Novice 8+ B boat to a first place finish with a time of 7:29.23. The boat was comprised of Emily Meissner (stroke), Kathleen Mascitelli (seat-7), Gabriella Kelly (seat-6), Layla Moran (seat-5), Olivia Aizen (seat-4), Samantha Sederstrand (seat-3), Sarah Asman (seat-2) and Lauren Thamel (bow)
The Owls Varsity 8+ A boat was comprised of Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Victoria Joye (stroke), Jackie Lees (seat-7), Megan Boyer(seat-6), Kara Carson (seat-5), Allison Watkins (seat-4), Callista DiGuardia (seat-3), Moira Meekes (seat-2) and Lauren Kidd (bow). This boat was followed by the 2nd Varsity 8+ race where Temple fell behind by 22 seconds. The B boat was comprised of Erin Matz (coxswain), Lea Millio (stroke), Emily Opperman (seat-7), Stephanie Barber (seat-6), Sarah Barber (seat-5), Annie Buckley (seat-4), Emily Leyland (seat-3), Grace Kroner (seat-2) and Susan O'Neil Coyne (bow)
The Varsity 4+ B race boat comprised of Julia Wolanski (coxswain), Kelly Hill (stroke), Stark (seat-3), Eileen Smith (seat-2) and Monique Howard (bow) placed second in its morning race as did the novice 8+ A boat, comprised of Aubrie Foden (coxswain), Kayla Dorney (stroke), Rachael Braccia (seat-7), Emily Mehler (seat-6), Sydney Garofolo (seat-5), Jenna Bahel (seat-4), Taryn Beaver (seat-3), Imani Johnson (seat-2), and Kaitlin Grisanti (bow) and the Novice 4+ races boat was comprised of Leticia Lucero (coxswain), Aimee Meissner (stroke), Kathleen Mascitelli (seat-3), Gabriella Kelly (seat-2) and Samantha Sederstrand (bow)
"Overall we had a solid performance today," said Temple head coach Rebecca Smith Grzybowski "I think we let the windy conditions get the better of us in some races. We addressed that factor during the break and I was impressed with how everyone was able to regroup and refocus for the afternoon session..."
Regroup they did as the Owls came out in the afternoon races against Duquesne with two first place finishes.
Led by Oken, the Varsity 4+ boat finished ahead of Duquesne with a time of 7:38.20. The Novice 4+ A boat followed suit, besting the Dukes and the Owls own Varsity 4+ B boat with a time of 8:15.78.
The Owls return to the water on April 12, for the Knecht Cup in Princeton, New Jersey.
