Women's Tennis Defeats Visiting Providence, 6-1
4.6.14 | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA – Temple's women's tennis team returned home for the first time since February, hosting Providence College on Sunday, April 6, at TU Pavilion. The Owls (7-10) came out on top of the Friars (5-12) by a score of 6-1.
TU got on the board with the win at doubles, defeating Providence at the first and third flights. Rebecca Breland and Dina Karina teamed up to defeat their opponents at No. 1, 8-4, before Alicia Doms and Minami Okajima won by the same score at No. 3.
The Friars made it a 1-1 match when Hannah Zangari defeated Anais Nussaume, 6-1, 6-0, at the fifth flight. It was all Temple from there, however, and the remainder of the Cherry & White players won in straight sets on the way to the 6-1 win.
"I was really happy with the way the girls came out and played today," commented Head Coach Steve Mauro. "It was great to be back playing on Temple's campus. We played strong in both doubles and singles and I'm really happy with the effort today."
The Owls, winners of two of their last three matches, remain home to host Fordham at TU Pavilion on Wednesday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m. The match will be Senior Day for Temple, and the four seniors – Jordan Batey, Carly Bohman, Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina – will be honored before the match.
