Women's Tennis Wins Final Home Match, 5-2, Against Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – Four seniors came out on top of their final career home match on Wednesday, April 9, as Jordan Batey, Carly Bohman, Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina were a part of defeating visiting Fordham 5-2 on Wednesday, April 9, at TU Pavilion. The Owls have won their last three matches and enter the American Athletic Conference Championship next week at 8-10 overall.
The Cherry & White jumped out to a 1-0 lead with wins at the first and second doubles flights. Both teams defeated the Fordham counterparts 8-4.
Anais Nussaume made it a 2-0 match with her 6-3, 6-0 win over Hanna Fritzinger at No. 6. The Rams got on the board with a win at No. 2, before Minami Okajima gave the home squad the 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 7-6(2) victory at the fifth flight.
After another Fordham win at the third flight got the visitors within one at 3-2, Doms handed her No. 1 opponent a 7-6, 6-4 decision to secure the win for her team. Dina Karina added a 7-6(5), 6-3 decision at the fourth flight for the final of 5-2.
"This was a great way to finish the regular season," said Head Coach Steve Mauro. "The girls really stepped up on Senior Day and gave us a great day for all of the seniors. We appreciate all of the people who came out to support us."
TU was scheduled to play La Salle at 1 p.m. at TU Pavilion on Friday, April 11, but the Explorers are shorthanded due to injury and the match has been canceled. The Owls will now compete next when they vie for a shot at the conference title at the inaugural American Conference tournament at USF in Tampa, Fla., April 17-20.
