CHICAGO  - Temple men's 2013 soccer player Vaughn Spurrier was named to the United States Futsal National Team for the Four Nations Tournament in England.  Spurrier is one of 14 players selected for the Tournament in Newcastle, England.

"I feel very blessed that years of hard work are culminating in an opportunity to represent my country on the world stage," Spurrier said.

The 2014 Four Nations Tournament will be held at Newcastle in Tyne's Sport Central Arena on the campus of Northumbria University from June 5-8.  The U.S. will play Qatar on June 5, Cyprus on June 6 and England on June 8.  The U.S. is the defending champion of the tournament, winning last year with a 3-0-0 record and +10 goal differential.

Spurrier is one of six newcomers on the squad.  The team will also play two games after the tournament is completed against France at the Kern Center on Milwaukee School of Engineering's campus on June 12 and 14.

The selection to the U.S. futsal team is one of many honors and awards the 2014 graduate has received after his final season at Temple in which he was second on the team in goals (four), assists (three) and points (11).  He was selected to the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star Team as well as being named the top offensive player by his team.  The biophysics major who compiled a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and participated in various charities and mentoring programs was named the overall American Athletic Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and the Male PNC Student-Athlete of the Year at Temple's 12th annual Breakfast of Champions.
