RALEIGH, NC -
Sophomore Brandon Matthews was even par after the first nine holes at the NCAA Men's Golf Raleigh Regional Thursday afternoon before torrential rain halted play on the first day of competition at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Matthews, who was tied for 26th at the time, will resume with his second shot on the 10th hole at approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday.  Round Two will also take place Friday 30 minutes upon completion of Round One.

"I played really well, hit the ball probably the best I ever have this whole season, but I just didn't make the putts. If I made a few more putts I probably would be sitting on the 10th fairway four under par," said Matthews.

The Dupont, Pa. native opened play with a birdie on the par five first hole.  He followed that with a bogey five on the par three second, and after shooting par on hole three, he knocked in a birdie on the fourth.  He gave the stroke back with a bogey on the fifth and then played even par the rest of the front nine.

Matthews is the first Owl to take part in the NCAA Championship since 1997, when the entire Temple team qualified for the regional round.
