RALEIGH, NC - Sophomore Brandon Matthews recovered from a four-over back nine on the completion of his first round to shoot a three-under 68 to finish one-over 143 after two rounds of the NCAA Men's Golf Raleigh Regional Friday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Matthews now sits in a tie for 29th overall entering the final round of competition Saturday. The low five teams, and the low individual not among those teams, advance to the finals.
The Dupont, Pa. native was four-under after the front nine of his second round and birdied the 11th to drop to five under for the round and one-under overall. He then bogeyed two of the final holes to end the day one-ver.
Matthews is the first Owl to take part in the NCAA Championship since 1997, when the entire Temple team qualified for the regional round.
