PHILADELPHIA
– The inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship will get underway on Thursday, May 8, at Cougar Softball Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. The sixth-seeded Owls will take on third-seeded Louisville in the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m. EST.

Temple enters the American Athletic Championship with a 15-29 overall record. Picked to finish last, the Owls exceeded expectations and secured the sixth-seed in the eight-team league with a 5-13 record in conference play and series wins against Rutgers and UConn. All eight teams make the tournament and the championship is single-elimination.

The Cardinals enter the championship with a 33-20 overall record and went 14-7 in conference play. Two weekends ago, Louisville took three from Temple in Louisville, Ky.

Senior Sarah Prezioso has led the squad for most of the season, hitting .360 (49-for-136) and topping the team in nearly every other offensive category. She has team-bests in hits (49), runs (33), RBI (22), stolen bases (19), doubles (9) and homeruns (8). The team-captain is in the top-five of the league in four categories.

Sophomore Kelsey Dominik continues to do the majority of the work in the circle. Dominik has posted an 9-11 record with a 3.25 ERA, the ninth-best in the league. She has tossed a team-high 125.0 innings in 22 appearances, recording 16 complete games and three shutouts.
