6.9.14 | Men's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis player Kristian Marquart has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Performer of the Year for 2014. Marquart is one of six student-athletes selected to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Team.  The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The Owls' team captain earned a spot on the last year's Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Team in his first year of eligibility.

Marquart, a native of Munich, Germany, played his singles matches between the second and fifth flights, and was active at the second and third doubles flights. He finished the year with a 14-8 singles record that included a 5-0 record at No. 3, wins in his final six matches and victories in 12 of his last 14.

An international business major, Marquart was recently named to Temple's Trustee Ten, an honor given to the top-ten student-athletes in terms of grade point average at TU. The junior boasts the second-highest GPA among student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher.

Marquart is joined on the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis team by Swarthmore's Anthony Collard and Max Kaye, Zach Katz of Penn, Drexel's Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Marc Ruggia of Arcadia.
