PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Temple Men's Soccer and Men's Tennis were among the 21 teams that have been recognized with 2013-14 American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards announced Commissioner Mike Aresco. The awards are given to the team having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport. The selections are made by the conference's Academic Affairs Committee.
"This is a tremendous honor and I am so proud of our student-athletes who worked as hard in the classroom as they did on the field," said Temple men's soccer coach David MacWilliams. "I also want to thank Justin Miller and his staff at the Nancy and Donald Resnick Academic Support Center, in particular Sarah Pegrine, who oversees the team's academic advising."
"Nothing makes me prouder than to see my student-athletes succeed in the classroom," said Temple men's tennis coach Steve Mauro. "This is a great day for Temple Tennis, and my thanks go out to Justin Miller, who oversees our academic support and senior academic advisor Nick Plack, who works directly with our team."
Temple was one of six conference members to have multiple teams honored. Memphis had six of its teams earn the honor to lead all institutions, while Louisville had five teams chosen. UCF, Rutgers and SMU each had two teams honored.
The winners were chosen based on the 2013-14 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
