Teesdale's Time: Owl Senior Golfer Advances to Match Play at U.S. Amateur

8.12.14 | Men's Golf

JOHNS CREEK, GA - Temple's senior Matt Teesdale continued his blistering summer, shooting a 69 in the second round of the 114th U.S. Amateur to finish at even-par for the two days and advance to the match play round.

His Owl teammate, junior Brandon Matthews, who was a quarterfinalist at the 2013 U.S. Amateur, missed the cut by one stroke.  Matthews shot a two-over 73 for the day to finish three-over par for the opening two rounds.

"It feels really good," said Teesdale on advancing to match play. "I'm just glad I had the opportunity to qualify and compete with the best amateurs in the world and to make the cut shows I can play with the best of them."

Teesdale birdied the 12th hole and the sixth hole at the Atlanta Athletic  Club's 7,381-yard, par 36-36-72 Riverside Course.  He parred the other 16 holes for his two-under total.

Matthews, on the other hand, recorded four birdies, but he also had four bogeys and one double-bogey, that coming on his 13th hole  of the day (4th hole), which derailed his effort.

Teesdale was tied for 32nd overall.  There will be a playoff for the final four spots starting at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday as 17 golfers tied for 61st  Match play will commence afterwards.
