Forty-Five Field Hockey and Lacrosse Student-Athletes Named to BIG EAST All-Academic Team
8.6.14 | Field Hockey, General, Women's Lacrosse
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the names of more than 2,000 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2013-14 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, including 45 student-athletes on Temple's field hockey and lacrosse teams. Temple is an associate member of the BIG EAST Conference in those two sports.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member and five affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There are 2,137 honorees for the 2013-14 academic year, with Georgetown leading all schools with 285 student-athletes recognized.
Justin Miller, Senior Director at the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, is extremely proud of all Temple's academic honorees among the conferences in which the Owls compete.
"The 2013-14 academic year has been one filled with tremendous local, regional and national accomplishments in the classroom by Temple's student-athletes, culminated by the release of the American Athletic Conference and BIG EAST Conference All-Academic Teams," said Miller. "These teams are filled with Owls from all sports and majors, and serve as reinforcement that this is a great time to be a student-athlete at Temple University. It is always exciting to be recognized amongst your peers and this is no exception. There are phenomenal student-athletes across the board in these very prestigious conferences, and it is rewarding to be included with such excellence. We are proud of all our student-athletes and look forward to more great things in the coming academic year."
