SOUTH KENT, CT -
Temple shot a few strokes better as a team on its final round Tuesday, but not enough to close on the leaders as the Owls finished a respectable fourth at the Hartford Hawk Invitational.

The Owls shot a 889 for the tournament (+25) finishing 15 strokes behind host Hartford (+10), who won the 19-team event being held at the par-72, 6,992-yard Bull's Bridge Golf Club.

Central Florida placed second (+12) while UConn (+18) was seven strokes better than Temple for third place.

Junior Brandon Matthews shot an even-par 216 for his three rounds to lead Temple. He placed fourth overall among the 105-player field.

Senior Pat Ross, who made his Temple debut at the Invitational after transferring from Hartford, was next for the Owls, and tied for eighth overall with a five-over 221. Senior Matthew Teesdale, whose two-under 70 was the best round of the day for TU, tied for 20th with an eight-over 224.

Freshman Evan Thornton (233, t-53rd) and senior Alec Kissell (239/t-76th) rounded out the field.

Temple next competes at The Quechee Club Invitational Sept. 26-27.
