Women's Gymnastics to Compete in Eighth Annual George Washington Invitational on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics travels the nation's capital for the eighth annual George Washington Invitational on Sunday. UNC, Cornell and UNC will also participate in the meet that's scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
The Owls started the season last Friday at Eastern Michigan, earning a team score of 187.2. Several Temple gymnasts excel at their events. After competing primarily on vault and floor senior Lauren Capone competed in her first all-around in her career, and Capone rose to the occasion with an all-around score of 38.075. She had the highest score for Temple on floor (9.725) and vault (9.675) and tied for the second best score of both teams on the beam (9.725).
Temple's best event came on the balance beam with a team score of 48.225. Alexis Arena had the highest score of both teams with a 9.75. Briana Odom and Taylor Rakus performed routines that earned them a 9.6, and Mikaela Postlethwait garnered a 9.55.
Michaela Lapent performed well on vault and earned a 9.55. Lapent also garnered a 9.425 on floor.
Freshmen Kerry Arone and Gina Tucker made their debuts as Owls in the meet as well. Arone performed on the bars, beams and floor. Tucker earned a 9.425 on floor in her only event of the meet.
Temple has participated in every single year of the George Washington Invitational. Last season the Owls placed third and earned a win over ECAC rival Penn.
