Covile Earns Weekly Honors from Big 5, American Athletic Conference

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's basketball player Erica Covile has earned recognition from the Philadelphia Big 5 and the American Athletic Conference for her play during the period ending January 18. The junior was named the Big 5 Player of the Week and also earned a spot on the American Weekly Honor Roll.Â
Covile averaged 12 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Temple, recording double-doubles in both of the Owls' games. On Wednesday, Covile boasted the first double-double given up by No. 2/2 UConn this season, picking up 13 points and 10 rebounds against the two-time defending NCAA Champions. On Saturday against UCF, Covile recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds as Temple defeated the Knights, 72-57. For the week, she averaged 38 minutes per game with three blocks and three steals.Â
Covile leads the Owls on the glass this season, recording 9.5 rebounds per game, while ranking third with 10.8 points per game. She has eight double-doubles this season, ranking second in the conference and 28th in the nation.Â
Temple is back in action tomorrow, hosting Cincinnati at 7 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. The game is being broadcast live by ESPN3.Â
