Men's Tennis Defeats Villanova 5-2 to Move On In City Six Tournament

PHILADELPHIA - To start the 2015 season, the men's tennis team defeated Villanova in the opening round of the City Six Tournament, 5-2. Head coach Steve Mauro was pleased with what he saw in the opening mach from the team.
"I was really happy with the way the guys came out and performed today in both singles and doubles," said Mauro. "Villanova has a strong team and it's always great to beat a cross-town rival and prestigious school."
After the doubles team of Filip Stipcic and Maros Januvka were defeated in the first flight, pair Santiago Canete and Ondre Cargill won the second flight, 8-5, and Ian Glessing and Vineet Naran won the third flight, 8-6.
In singles, Canete and Nicolas Paulus held strong at the first and second flights, recording straight set victories. Despite losses at the third and fourth flights, Naran and Cargill rounded out the match and the win with victories for the Owls.
Temple will take on Saint Joseph's in the second round of the City Six Tournament on Saturday, January 24 at 11 a.m. The match will take place at the Levy Tennis Court on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
