Women's Tennis Splits Matches at VCU Invite

RICHMOND, VA. – In the opening weekend of their 2015 season, the women's tennis team split their matches at the VCU Invite on Saturday. The team is 1-1 on the season.
In the morning, the Owls were defeated by host-team VCU, 4-1. The only winning point came from the doubles pair of Mariana Bedon and Minami Okajima, who defeated Ana Batiri and Alzbeta Veverkova, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
In singles, the women were swept in three straight sets. Alina Abdurakhimova forced a tiebreaker in the first flight against VCU's Salome Kvitashvili, but dropped the decision, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
In the later match, the team defeated Morgan State, 3-2. Yana Khon picked up a win for the Owls at the first flight in singles, beating Cierra Plummer, 6-3, 6-2. Kohn finished the day 1-1, after she was defeated at the fourth flight against VCU's Alejandra de Lasa, 6-2, 6-3.
The women will face Norfolk State tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to complete the weekend.
