Matthews Leads Golf at Autotrader.com Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, Ga. – Senior All-American Brandon Matthews shot a two-over 146 Monday in the first day of the fifth annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club to lead the Temple Golf team Monday.
Matthews, who advanced to the second stage of the PGA Q School last week, shot a 76 during the morning round only to recover with a two-under 70. He is tied for 32nd overall among the 88 competitors.
Redshirt freshman John Barone was next for Temple and tied for 52nd overall with a six-over 150 (77-73). Freshmen Trey Wren (77-75, 152) and Sam Soeth (75-79, 154) rounded out the Owl scorers, in 68th and 75th place respectively.
Lipscomb led the 14-team field with rounds of 279 and 274 to sit at 23-under par. The Bisons' Dawson Armstrong shot a 65-67 for a blistering 12-under par to take a commanding seven-stroke lead entering the final round.
Lipscomb holds a 10-stroke lead over South Florida which stands at 13-under with 18 holes to play. Temple is in 14th place with a 602, two shots behind Mercer while trailing Davidson by four strokes.
The tournament concludes with one round on Tuesday.
