Blanca Fernandez Wins Princeton Cross Country Invitational, Her Fourth Victory in Four Races
10.17.15 | Women's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. - For a fourth time in the four races she has competed in for Temple women's cross country this season, graduate student Blanca Fernandez took first place. This time it was among 206 competitors at the Princeton Invitational, with Fernandez finishing the 6K course in 20:58.5.
"Today was a great chance for us to see the course we'll be racing on at the NCAA Regional meet," said coach James Snyder. "We got to see where we match up with these teams in our region, and we can definitely draw confidence from our performances today. In a month we look to come back and really get the job done."
The Owls finished in 14th place among 24 teams at the meet, and got a 42nd-place finish from sophomore Katie Pinson in 22:26.7. Snyder was pleased to see freshman Alexis O'Shea finish as Temple's third runner in a personal-best time of 23:15.6.
"That was a huge PR for Alexis," said Snyder. "She ran a good, competitive race and was in it from the starting gun. She really stepped up her intensity to be our #3 runner and that's a big deal for us. Obviously Blanca getting another win is fantastic, and she will head into our conference meet having not been beaten this season."
Saturday's meet was the final tune-up for the Owls, who will next race in the American Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 31 at East Carolina.
