PHILADELPHIA - Coming off their first national ranking in 36 years, the #22/24 Temple Owls' game against the #11/10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been selected as ABC's Saturday Night Football Game and will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.
It is the first time that an American Athletic Conference team has been selected as the ABC's Saturday Football Game and it is the first primetime full national telecast for the conference. It is also the first time Temple Football will be televised nationally by the network.
"This is tremendous exposure for our Temple Football program and it is well-deserved recognition for the job Matt Rhule has done with this team," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "We look forward to having the rest of the country see Temple Football play against an elite program like Notre Dame on a national stage."
With its 30-16 win over UCF on Saturday, Temple moved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the American Athletic Conference. The six wins to open the season ties for the best start in program history. The Owls moved into the polls Sunday, marking the program's first national ranking since being 17th in the final polls of the 1979 season.
Notre Dame is 6-1 overall and has won its last two games, its most recent a 41-31 win over USC Saturday. The Fighting Irish's lone setback came at nationally-ranked Clemson, 24-22, on October 3.
Temple plays at East Carolina this Thursday night (7:00 p.m.) in an ESPN2 national telecast. Notre Dame has a bye week.
