PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey will travel to #11 Old Dominion for a noon game on Tuesday, Oct. 20, that will be televised by the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) through the Fox Sports Go App. The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 2, but was moved due to inclement weather in Norfolk.
Temple is looking to snap an eight-game losing streak, with six of those losses coming by just a single goal. The Owls' last three games have all been decided by one goal, as have six of the last seven. Seven of Temple's losses have come against teams ranked in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
The Owls have played three overtime games this season, all in the most recent five-game stretch. They lost in a shootout at Providence on Oct. 16, their first-ever in the current format. The last time Temple was in a game not decided in OT was in 1992 when the Owls lost to UMass on penalty strokes.
Senior Alyssa Delp leads Temple with nine goals this season. In Temple's most recent win at Monmouth (Sept. 18), Delp recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Owls in their 4-2 victory. Delp's nine goals rank fourth among all players in the conference. With 34 goals scored (2.27 goals per game), Temple ranks third among the teams in the BIG EAST Conference. The Owls rank second in the BIG EAST in goals scored off corners with 11 (0.73 per game).
On Friday, Oct. 23 prior to Temple's BIG EAST game against Georgetown, the Owls will honor 10 seniors for Senior Day. The group includes two fifth-year seniors in Haley Mitchell and Rachel Steinman.
Old Dominion comes into Tuesday's match-up having dropped back-to-back non-conference games, falling to #8 Maryland and #2 UConn by a close 1-0 margin in both contests. Senior midfielder Sarah Breen leads the Monarchs with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists this season. Sophomore forward Danielle Grega has recorded eight goals and 17 points. Freshman Kealsie Robles has started the past 11 games in goal for ODU and holds a 7-4 overall record. Â
Temple head coach Marybeth Freeman is a 2003 graduate of Old Dominion, where she was a four-year starter in goal for the Monarchs. She helped lead them to national titles in 1998 and 2000, while ODU also won the Colonial Athletic Association title all four years of her career.
Old Dominion holds a 20-2-1 lead in the all-times series against Temple, but the Owls took out the Monarchs 2-1 in last year's BIG EAST Tournament semifinals. The regular season game had gone to ODU, 3-2.
