PHILADELPHIA – With three games left in the regular season, Temple men's soccer is set to host the UConn Huskies Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the first of three consecutive American Athletic Conference matchups.
The Owls are returning home after a 2-0 loss at Tulsa where the team logged 15 total shots without finding the back of the net. For their performances in the previous match against Columbia, Joonas Jokinen and Carlos Moros Gracia earned weekly honors from the conference and Philadelphia Soccer Six.
Jokinen was named the Soccer Six Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Columbia. He also tallied an assist in the match. Moros Gracia was named to the conference's weekly honor roll after scoring his second goal of the season, both of which have been headers to the back of the net. He also played a key role in limiting the Lions to only one goal off of their 14 total shots.
With 33 total assists through their 15 matches, the Owls are tied for the national lead in total assists, as well as ranking fourth in total points with 89.
The Huskies are coming off their first conference victory, topping UCF 2-1 at home on Oct. 17. Junior Jake Nerwinski knocked in the game-winner in the 80th minute to log the victory. UConn now stands at 3-0-0 when scoring at least two goals in a match.
Huskies' goalkeeper Scott Levene ranks second in the conference with a goals against average of 0.85 and has only allowed 12 goals through 13 matches.
Wednesday's match will be the fourth game between the two teams, with UConn leading the series 2-0-1. In 2014, the Huskies topped the Owls 3-1.
