Women's Soccer Hosts Houston on Senior Day

10.24.15 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's soccer will close out the regular season with its final home game against Houston on Sunday. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and the Owls' nine graduating seniors will be honored prior to the start of the game.

Brendi Ernst, Kelly Farrell, Kaylee Harner, Shauni Kerkhoff, Paula Jurewicz, Erin Lafferty, Paige Rachel, Shannon Senour and Taylor Trusky will play their last match at the Ambler Sports Complex after helping the team to the program's fourth 11-win season, but for the first time back-to-back. They have also helped in earning the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for four straight years.

The Owls picked up their program-tying 11th victory after edging out SMU, 3-2 on Thursday.  For the fourth time in program history, the Owls tied a program record for most wins in a season (1991, 2000, and 2014) and earned their first win over the Mustangs since the inception of the American Athletic Conference in 2013.

Senior Shannon Senour headed in the first goal in the 37th minute off an assist from senior Paula Jurewicz. Senior Erin Lafferty knocked in two penalty kicks for the Owls - one in the 87th minute to tie things up at two and then with 29 seconds left for the game-winner.

Lafferty also tied a program record for career games played at 77 (set by Mary Mulvenna from 1997-00 and Kelly Lare from 2003-07).

The Owls also look to break another program record and become the first team in the team's history to win 12 games in the one season.

Temple leads the American Athletic Conference in goals scored (39), score average (2.17) and points (91).
