Football to Face Tulane for Homecoming Game
10.6.15 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - The Owls return to Lincoln Financial Field for the first time in over a month to face Tulane this Saturday at noon. The game will be broadcast by ESPNU and can be heard on 97.5 The Fanatic. Temple enters the game receiving votes in both major polls, for the fifth consecutive week. The Owls took their third straight win on the road, pounding Charlotte 37-3 at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The Green Wave won their conference opener 45-31 over UCF.
The first 4-0 start in 40 seasons has been fueled by a return to what head coach Matt Rhule considers traditional Temple football. Junior running back Jahad Thomas has become the feature back that style demands. He has 100 carries in his first four games, accumulating 503 yards and six touchdowns so far. Junior quarterback P.J. Walker has supported the offense as an effective field general, throwing five touchdowns to just two interceptions. Tulane's secondary will challenge the deep and tall receiving corps. The Green Wave average +1 in turnover margin.
After going 1-2 in non-conference action, the Green Wave defeated UCF at home. Sophomore quarterback Tanner Lee threw four touchdowns, eclipsing his total for the season. He'll face a veteran Owls defense that combines a strong pass rush up front with excellent coverage. Led by the NCAA's active leading tackler, senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich, Temple's defense looks to build upon its dominance at Charlotte, where they broke up a season-high five passes and redshirt junior defensive back Nate L. Smith snuffed out a late drive with a 74-yard interception return.
