Football's Matakevich, Jahad Thomas Earn American Weekly Honors

PHILADELPHIA – Senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich and junior running back Jahad Thomas of the #25 Temple Owls were recognized in the American Athletic Conference's final weekly honors. Matakevich earned his fourth Defensive Player of the Week Award in his final regular season game, recording a team-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack. The Owls' defense have not allowed a touchdown in the last eight quarters. Jahad Thomas recorded his fifth 100-yard game of the season, carrying 20 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including a 60-yard blast down the sideline. This performance landed him on the conference honor roll, also the fourth award for him this season. Temple defeated UConn 27-3 to get the program's first 10-win regular season and division title, claiming the inaugural East Division trophy on Senior Day.
The Owls will fly to Houston for a showdown with the Cougars in the American's first conference championship game. Kickoff will be 12:00 p.m. ET and the game will air on ABC.
