Matthews Tied for 8th at Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic

EL PASO, Texas - Playing in one of the elite collegiate golf tournaments in the country, senior All-American Brandon Matthews shot an even par 142 over two rounds of the Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic Saturday to tie for eighth par 71, 6889-yard El Paso Country Club.

Matthews shot a three-under 68 in the morning round before carding a three-over 74 in the afternoon.  USF's Claudio Correa leads the field with a six-under 136. 

The tournament is being held at one of the premier college golf tournaments in the country. Some of golf's brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete in the tournament since its inaugural year in 1976. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Ricky Barnes and Jerry Pate are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. College All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 47 majors championships and have earned over $1 billion in career earnings.

The tournament concludes Sunday.
