Lacrosse Hosts Cornell on Saturday; Game Changed to Noon Start
2.20.15 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - With three games and three wins to start the 2015 season, Temple lacrosse will look to remain undefeated when the Owls host Cornell at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. Temple will play two straight at home before heading out on the road for a four-game swing.Â
The scheduled live webcast will not be available for Saturday's game due to weather. Live stats will be available HERE.
Temple enters Saturday's game undefeated at 3-0 after showing its ability to stay tough in close games. The Owls had an unusual start to the season, winning two one-goal games in overtime (10-9 vs. UMBC and 12-11 at Saint Joseph's). Temple's third game at La Salle was another close one with six ties, but the Owls scored the final three goals and won 9-7. Proving how many offensive weapons they have this season, the Owls got their nine goals from nine different players in the victory.
Cornell will be playing its first game of the season at Temple on Saturday. When the teams met last year in Ithaca, the Big Red came out on top by a score of 17-9.
Freshman attacker Nicole Barretta scored the Owls' first goal of the 2015 season, and went on to record a hat trick in that game- her first as a collegiate lacrosse player. Barretta's three goals helped lead Temple to a 10-9 overtime win against UMBC. She followed up that performance with another goal in Temple's 12-11 overtime win at Saint Joseph's in the second game of the season, and scored her fifth goal in the Owls' 9-7 win at La Salle.
Carly Demato recorded her third career hat trick in the second game of her sophomore season, scoring three goals including the overtime game-winner to lead the Owls to a 12-11 win at Saint Joseph's. For her efforts, Demato was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Demato also scored a goal in Temple's 10-9 season-opening overtime win vs. UMBC, and scored in the Owls' 9-7 win at La Salle.Â
