Women's Tennis Defeats St. Francis, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA – A week after a loss to Cincinnati, the women's tennis team defeated St. Francis (Pa.), 6-1.
The Owls swept doubles play, starting with Dina Karina and Rebecca Breland taking a third flight victory against Camila Diaz and Brittini Jentz, 6-3. Monet Stuckey-Willis and Anais Nussaume followed right behind to clinch the point at with a 6-1 victory at the second flight over Alex Sachs and Danielle Gryckiewicz. Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon picked up a 7-5 victory at the first flight.
Singles was all Temple again, with straight-set victories at five flights. Karina made the score 2-0 for the Owls, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the fourth flight over Jentz. Minami Okajima was able to secure the 3-0 score, taking down Diaz at the sixth flight, 6-1, 6-1. Stuckey-Willis wrapped up the match for the Owls by defeating Sachs at the third flight, 6-4, 6-1.
Khon and Aburakhimova both picked up victories at the second and first flights, respectively. After missing from the singles lineup at Cincinnati, Abdurakhimova picked up her ninth consecutive straight-set victory, defeating Rafaela Panizza, 6-4, 6-3.
The Owls (9-3, 0-1) will travel to Greenville, N.C. on March 4 to take on American Athletic Conference member East Carolina.
