Women's Tennis Falls to East Carolina, 4-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. – In their second American Athletic Conference match of the season, the women's tennis team fell to East Carolina, 4-1.
The Pirates claimed the doubles point after Michelle Castro and Nicole LaDuca took down Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon, 7-6 at the first flight, while Dana Gray and Katie Hoch took care of the third flight, defeating Rebecca Breland and Dina Karina, 7-6. Anais Nussaume and Monet Stuckey-Willis did claim a 7-5 victory at the second flight against East Carolina's Maria Gomez and Neena Wanko.
Abdurakhimova's nine consecutive straight-set victory streak came to an end as she suffered her first loss since January 24 at the first flight, dropping her set 6-4, 6-3 to LaDuca. Nussaume picked up the only point for the Owls, defeating Sarah Sarjoo, 6-4, 6-2 at the fourth flight.
The Owls (9-4, 0-2 The American) will play a double-header tomorrow, facing Hampton at 10 a.m. and UMES at 3 p.m.
