3.13.15 | Men's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA- The men's tennis team continued on a three-match winning streak, after shutting out La Salle, 7-0 on Friday, March 13. This marked the fourth shutout win for the Owls this season.
Head coach Steve Mauro was extremely pleased with the way that the team came out and performed in the rivalry match.
"It was a good win today, it's always great to play a crosstown rival in La Salle, so we were really happy to get the win," said Mauro. "And especially to beat them convincingly at 7-0 was a good feat for the guys. I was really happy with both their singles and doubles, they just came out strong and kept it going,"
In doubles, the Owls were quick to take the point, with Ian Glessing and Maros Janukva defeating Brian Balico and Thomas MacLeod, 6-1 at the second flight. Ondre Cargill and Anutey Yadiki teamed up at the third flight to take a 6-0 victory over Andrew O'Connell and Liam Rodriguez.
Singles was another showing of the Owls strong play, starting with Januvka coming out at the sixth flight and shutting out Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0. In his regular season debut, freshman Stephen Ong took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the fifth flight over O'Connell. Glessing continued at the fourth flight was a 6-1, 6-0 victory over MacLeod, while Vineet Naran took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Fetterman at the third flight. Nicolas Paulus added another point to the Owls score, taking down Balico, 6-2, 6-0 at the second flight. Santiago Canete moved to 9-6 on the season at the first flight with a 6-1, 7-6(1) victory over De'Sean Fennell.
The Owls (9-6, 0-2 The American) will take on another City 6 rival as they face Penn on March 21.
