Blanca Fernandez Competes at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - In her final meet of the 2015 indoor track season, junior Blanca Fernandez competed in the semi-final mile race at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Unversity of Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Fernandez is the first Temple women's track and field athlete to qualify for the national meet in 28 years.
Fernandez finished 12th overall with a time of 4:42.17, just four seconds shy from qualifying for the finals on Saturday, March 14.
This closes out an impressive indoor season for Fernandez which included earning two first-place finishes at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28. Fernandez set new meet records in both the mile with a time of 4:50.11 and 3,000m run, finishing in 9:22.77. After her standout performance she was also named the Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer, the first for Temple track and field in The American. Fernandez also set two school records for Temple this season in both the mile (4:40.60) and 3,000m run (9:16.24).
The Owls' outdoor track season begins close to home next weekend on March 21 at the Philadelphia Classic.
