WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Temple men's golf team welcomes the first week of Spring with its first of six tournaments of the 2015 season. Â The Owls travel to historic Williamsburg, Virginia to compete in the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate held at Kingsmill Resort's River Course Sunday, March 22 through Tuesday, March 24.
"We are looking forward to a terrific spring campaign,' said eighth year head coach Brian Quinn. Â "The guys are eager to get on the course for some real competition and this tournament will be a good test to open the season."
This is the 33rd year that William & Mary has hosted the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate on the 6,765-yard, par-70 River Course, which serves as the longtime home of the Michelob Open on the PGA tour, the Michelob Ultra Open on the LPGA tour, and currently home to the LPGA Kingsmill Championship.Â
This year's field includes 29 teams: Air Force, Appalachian State, Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Cleveland State, Dayton, Delaware, Eastern Kentucky, IPFW, James Madison, La Salle, Longwood, Loyola Chicago, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, Missouri, Ohio, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, St. Francis (Pa.), Saint Joseph's, Temple, Towson, Youngstown State, William and Mary.
The Owls are led by junior Brandon Matthews. The DuPont, Pa. native is coming off a string fall season where he compiled a 71.3 stroke average over 15 rounds. Â He finished in the Top 10 in all six events, including a win at the Temple Invitational.
Senior Patrick Ross, a transfer from Hartford, turned in two Top 10 finishes while posting a 74.6 stroke average. Â Fellow senior Matt Teesdale (75.7 spr) and freshman Evan Thornton (77.5 spr) also competed in all six tournaments.Â
