3.22.15 | Men's Golf

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The first official round of the spring season is in the books and it was not a pretty one for the Temple men's golf team.  The Owls looked rusty Sunday at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate held at Kingsmill Resort's River Course, placing 29th of 30 teams after day one of the three day event.

JUnior Brandon Matthews led the way for the Owls, tying for 40th with a three-over par 73.  Senior Patrick Ross was six strokes back with a 79 to tie for 113th while freshmen Evan Thornton and Mark Farley each carded 80s and senior Matt Teesdale rounding out the squad with a 82.

Radford and Loyola-Maryland tied for the team lead with 283 scores while Boston College's Nick Pandelena and High Point's Jack Sides were atop the individual leaderboard with three-under 67s.

Play continues Monday at the 6,765-yard, par-70 River Course, which serves as the longtime home of the Michelob Open on the PGA tour, the Michelob Ultra Open on the LPGA tour, and currently home to the LPGA Kingsmill Championship.
